Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare

Cordelia Carstairs is a Shadowhunter, a warrior trained since childhood to battle demons. When her father is accused of a terrible crime, she and her brother travel to London to prevent the family's ruin. Cordelia's mother wants to marry her off, but Cordelia is determined to be a hero rather than a bride. Soon Cordelia encounters childhood friends James and Lucie Herondale and is drawn into their world of glittering ballrooms, secret assignations, and supernatural salons, where vampires and warlocks mingle with mermaids and magicians. She must hide her secret love for James, who is sworn to marry someone else.

This has been on my TBR for years now and I finally got around to it last November. I'm ashamed that I didn't get to it sooner as I loved it a lot and it is up there as one of my favourite Shadowhunter books if the rest of the series goes the same way the whole series can become one of my favourites. I loved Cordelia and James and their romance which is normally my least favourite part of a Cassandra Clare book however this felt different to the rest of her books and I just wanted to continue reading about their developing story. I also enjoyed the side story lines and can't wait to see them more fleshed out in the next two books. I do wish we had more scenes from the perspective of other characters and there are some scenes that were from Cordelia's perspective that I felt should have been from Alastair's perspective and some scenes from James' perspective that I felt should have been from Matthews's perspective and this wouldn't have annoyed me normally if the book was only from Cordelia and James' perspectives.

 I received an E Arc from net galley in exchange for an honest review 5/5 Stars *SPOILERS* Emma Starrs family bookshop is close to closing and desperate to save it Emma agrees to plan a mystery-themed party for her arch-nemesis Tabitha from school. January 2022 A Box of Stories

 A Box of Stories is an amazing subscription service that is working to stop the destruction of over 77 million books per year. I've had this subscription for almost six months and it allows you to change the subscription rate so you can have it every month, every two months, three months or just skip a month or two if you are on a book buying ban. My Favourite Classic Books

Classics is a genre that both terrifies me and intrigues me. I have read a fair amount of classics that I have at least 5 favourites that I think many people will also enjoy even if classics aren't you're thing. 1) Black Beauty by Anne Sewell My all time favourite classic and childhood favourite book. It tells the life story of a horse known as Black Beauty through his own eyes. We see him as he's a small foal living with his Mother and a kind farmer and when he's an adult living with grumpy and harsh farmers. 2) A Christmas Carol by Charles Dicken I reread this one every Christmas eve. It never gets old and I will always love the story it tells. Scrooge is a grumpy old man who takes advantage of those around him when one Christmas eve he is visited by 4 spirits in hopes of changing his ways. 3) Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll I love the whimsical feel of Wonderland that is a major part of this book.
