Delilah Green Doesn't Care by Ashley Herring Blake

4/5 Stars Delilah Green swore she would never go back to Bright Falls—nothing is there for her but memories of a lonely childhood where she was little more than a burden to her cold and distant stepfamily. Her life is in New York, with her photography career finally gaining steam and her bed never empty. Sure, it’s a different woman every night, but that’s just fine with her. When Delilah’s estranged stepsister, Astrid, pressures her into photographing her wedding with a guilt trip and a five-figure check, Delilah finds herself back in the godforsaken town that she used to call home. She plans to breeze in and out, but then she sees Claire Sutherland, one of Astrid’s stuck-up besties, and decides that maybe there’s some fun (and a little retribution) to be had in Bright Falls, after all. I loved this book so much, the small-town romance, the friendships, (the tattoos), the smut level, and Claire and Delilah's relationship growth. It was perfect and the way it was written helped ma

Thick As Thieves by Lucy Lennox

4/5 Stars Julian Thick is in love with his best friend has been for most of his life. The only problem? Parker is straight and has been in an off and on again relationship for years. However when on Parkers wedding day his would be wife jilts him so she can 'do more adventures' he turns to his best friend Julian for comfort and maybe more. This was a really fun sweet and steamy friends to lovers romance and I have been loving friends to lovers lately. It had the perfect mix of angst, smut and romance. The characters were great and had a great dynamic.   There was a couple scenes that I really hated such as when Julian finds out the wedding is off he immediately assumes that Parker jilted Erin and assaulted him because of it. Then when he found out that is was actually her that jilted him he barley apologised for hitting him and wasn't nearly as mad at Erin than he was at Parker which confused me as Parker is his best friend not Erin. The second scene that i didn't like

My favourite Horror Books Part 2

Time for part tow of my favourite horror books! 1) Dracul by Drace Stoker A sickly child, Bram spent his early days bedridden in his parents' Dublin home, tended to by his caretaker, a young woman named Ellen Crone. When a string of strange deaths occur in a nearby town, Bram and his sister Matilda detect a pattern of bizarre behaviour  by Ellen--a mystery that deepens chillingly until Ellen vanishes suddenly from their lives. Years later, Matilda returns from studying in Paris to tell Bram the news that she has seen Ellen--and that the nightmare they've thought long ended is only beginning. 2) Bunny by Mona Awad Samantha Heather Mackey couldn't be more of an outsider in her small, highly selective MFA program at New England's Warren University. A scholarship student who prefers the company of her dark imagination to that of most people, she is utterly repelled by the rest of her fiction writing cohort – a clique of unbearably twee rich girls who call each other 'B

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

4/5 Stars Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a strange book hidden in the library stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood. Bewildered by this inexplicable book and desperate to make sense of how his own life came to be recorded, Zachary uncovers a series of clues – a bee, a key and a sword – that lead him to a masquerade party in New York, to a secret club, and through a doorway to a subterranean library, hidden far below the surface of the earth. This book took me over a year to get to and I'm so mad at myself for taking this long to read it. It has everything that i love in it, whimsical settings, a cute romance, three dimensional side characters, a library. While I have no idea what was happening or why it was happening and I was left with more questions then answers at the end, I didn't care at all as the wr

Blood Like Magic by Liselle Sambury

3/5 Stars  After years of waiting for her Calling—a trial every witch must pass in order to come into their powers—the one thing Voya Thomas didn’t expect was to fail. When Voya’s ancestor gives her an unprecedented second chance to complete her Calling, she agrees—and then is horrified when her task is to kill her first love. And this time, failure means every Thomas witch will be stripped of their magic. I really enjoyed the magic system in this and the familial love that was prevalent throughout the entire book. I also very much enjoyed the plot twist towards the end where we find out that 'destroy her first love' doesn't have to mean that she kills the first person she falls in love with. However I hated the choice she made, and didn't understand at all why she chose to ruin her cousins life over the boy she fell in love with over the course of the book, I don't think it was explained very well. Also the first quarter of this book was so slow that I was debating

My Favourite Classic Books

Classics is a genre that both terrifies me and intrigues me. I have read a fair amount of classics that I have at least 5 favourites that I think many people will also enjoy even if classics aren't you're thing. 1) Black Beauty by Anne Sewell My all time favourite classic and childhood favourite book. It tells the life story of a horse known as Black Beauty through his own eyes. We see him as he's a small foal living with his Mother and a kind farmer and when he's an adult living with grumpy and harsh farmers. 2) A Christmas Carol by Charles Dicken I reread this one every Christmas eve. It never gets old and I will always love the story it tells. Scrooge is a grumpy old man who takes advantage of those around him when one Christmas eve he is visited by 4 spirits in hopes of changing his ways. 3) Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll I love the whimsical feel of Wonderland that is a major part of this book. While not a big part of my own childhood as I didn't read it

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E.Harrow

4/5 Stars In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artefacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored, and utterly out of place. Then she finds a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds, and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure and danger. Each page turn reveals impossible truths about the world and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own. I have to be honest here, I read this one a few weeks ago now and if you asked me what the plot was I would have no idea. I've read over the synopsis and I still haven't got a clue. However, what I do remember is that the writing was phenomenal and the characters were amazing and well written and it felt like I was with them the entire time I was reading it (even if I don't know what they were doing).

The Pennymores and the Curse of the Invisible Quill by Eric Koester

Thank you to Netgalley for the Earc in exchange for an honest review 4/5 Stars When her brother vanishes in the night, along with all she thought to be true of magic, Parker Pennymore must unmask family secrets, travel far beyond the castle walls, and convince her sisters to break a few laws along the way - but what's a hero’s journey without a little rebellion?  The Pennymores explores a world where all writing has been banned for centuries. But when an unstoppable enemy returns threatening the destroy their world, the Pennymores must set off on a quest taking them inside hidden mystical realms, confronting ancient challenges, and forcing them to step closer to the heroes they are destined to be. The relationship between the three main sisters was my favourite part of this book. Watching the three of them along with their new friend try to get their invisible brother back to visible before he is invisible forever was so much fun. And while the writing style wasn't my favourit

My Favourite Thriller and Murder Mystery books

Another List of my favourite books! Here is a list of my favourite Thriller and Murder Mystery Books. 1) A Good Girls Guide to Murder Series by Holly Jackson The case is closed. Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by Sal Singh. The police know he did it. Everyone in town knows he did it. But having grown up in the same small town that was consumed by the crime, Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn’t so sure. When she chooses the case as the topic for her final project, she starts to uncover secrets that someone in town desperately wants to stay hidden. And if the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from the truth …? 2) When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole Sydney Green is Brooklyn born and raised, but her beloved neighbourhood seems to change every time she blinks. Condos are sprouting like weeds, FOR SALE signs are popping up overnight, and the neighbours she's known all her life are disappearing. To hold onto her community's past and present, Syd

If This Gets Out by Sophie Gonzales and Cale Dietritch

5/5 Stars Eighteen year old'  Ruben Montez and Zach Knight are two members of the boy band Saturday, one of the biggest acts in America. Along with their bandmates, Angel Phan and Jon Braxton, the four are teen heartthrobs in front of the cameras and best friends backstage. But privately, the pressure to stay in the closet has Ruben confiding in Zach. On a whirlwind tour through Europe with an unrelenting schedule and minimal supervision, the two come to rely on each other more and more, and their already close friendship evolves into a romance. But when they decide they’re ready to tell their fans and live freely, Zach and Ruben realize they will never truly have the support they need. This book was perfect, it had everything I needed for a good YA romance. The angst and the fluff were the perfect amounts and at times I was annoyed at Zach, especially the way he treated Ruben after their first kiss. However, I never hated it as it was written so well that I understood where he wa

Something to Talk about by Meryl Wilsner

2/5 Stars Hollywood powerhouse Jo is photographed making her assistant Emma laugh on the red carpet, and just like that, the tabloids declare them a couple. The so-called scandal couldn't come at a worse time—threatening Emma's promotion and Jo's new movie. I had such high hopes for this book even with the low rating however I was so disappointed as it was basically 300 pages of not very much. In theory, it sounds like it would be perfect, it has fake dating (which I am loving at the moment), employee/employer romance, age gap and Hollywood romance. But when I read it I was so bored most of the time. I didn't care about either of the characters and found that Emma was annoying more often than not especially when she would get upset with Jo for things that aren't actually that big of a deal. The romance itself was a slow burn and don't get me wrong I love a good slow burn however this was not a good low burn. We got nothing from the romance until almost the very

Anticipated Releases for the second half of the year

I'm not always on the edge of my seat for new releases as I usually prefer waiting until it has been out for a while until I read a book, however there are a few books that I can't wait to get to  1) The Dragons Promise by Elizabeth Kim Shiori’s quest continues in the soaring sequel to the New York Times bestselling young adult fantasy Six Crimson Cranes. Princess Shiori made a deathbed promise to return the dragon’s pearl to its rightful owner, but keeping that promise is more dangerous than she ever imagined. She must journey to the kingdom of dragons, navigate political intrigue among humans and dragons alike, fend off thieves who covet the pearl for themselves and will go to any lengths to get it, all the while cultivating the appearance of a perfect princess to dissuade those who would see her burned at the stake for the magic that runs in her blood. 2) Babel by R.F. Kuang 1828. Robin Swift, orphaned by cholera in Canton, is brought to London by the mysterious Professor L

Front Desk by Kelly Yang

5/5 Stars Mia Tang has a lot of secrets: Number 1: She lives in a motel, not a big house. Every day, while her immigrant parents clean the rooms, ten-year-old Mia manages the front desk of the Calivista Motel and tends to its guests.  Number 2: Her parents hide immigrants. And if the mean motel owner, Mr. Yao, finds out they've been letting them stay in the empty rooms for free, the Tangs will be doomed.  Number 3: She wants to be a writer. But how can she when her mom thinks she should stick to math because English is not her first language? This book was a very fun and fascinating read. Mia is a brilliant main character that shows all the pain and the hope that a lot of immigrants face. It's a very powerful story that has some amazing family dynamics and friendships and the mistakes that Mia makes throughout the book make her more real and easy to root for.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

4/5 Stars As a third-year PhD candidate, Olive Smith doesn’t believe in lasting romantic relationships–but her best friend does, and that’s what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is dating and well on her way to a happily ever after was always going to take more than hand-wavy Jedi mind tricks: Scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees. One thing I wanted to do more this year was read more books outside of my comfort zone and romance is definitely a book genre outside of my comfort zone. However, this book was amazing. Olive and Adam were amazingly written characters and I loved reading about their development together and separately. Their romance was adorable and has cemented fake dating as one of my favourite tropes. One thing I hate in romance books is how the side characters can often be treated terribly by the main character or treated like they only exist to further the main character'
